What are some of the most common mistakes people make when decorating their space without the aid of an interior designer? Well, there are many, but we have chosen that can easily be applied to all homes and that many people are guilty of.

1. Blindless windows
Never leave your windows naked. They are a crucial part of your interior, and you want them to serve their function in the best possible way. And a blinds are a big part of that. They are a way of completing the design of the windows and giving a finishing note to the space. Different types, shapes and systems change the proportions, symmetry and atmosphere of the windows. If the windows are small and poorly placed, blinds can be used to visually make them bigger, they improve their position and the proportions of the entire space.

Many different types of blinds make your windows come to life and they make your space more beautiful. They also control the amount of light that enters your home. Every interior style and every room purpose demands a different type of blinds and blinds system. It’s important that the whole thing fits with our lifestyle and that is fits with the other elements in the interior creating a balanced and harmonic atmosphere.

2. Poorly chosen and placed lighting
Lighting is of course one of the most important elements of an interior, because it has a decorative and functional role. Every room demands differently chosen and positioned floor and table lamps, chandeliers, indirect lighting. Poorly chosen lighting reduces the quality and the beauty of even the most beautiful interior. On the other hand, properly placed and used lighting creates an elegant, warm and beautiful atmosphere, it accents colors and shapes.

3. Not matching designs, colors, shapes and textures
This is something that most commonly happens because of impulse buying, or the fear of combining different things. Almost everything that is visually appealing to us has been created by successfully combining different materials, colors, textures and designs. So if the elements in our homes are not combined well, there is chaos in the interior, instead of balance and harmony.

To get a balanced relation between these elements, it is useful that we consult someone who knows what they are doing before actually doing it. You should start by determining a style, then a base colors, then add details in a contrast color, different patterns and designs, textures and materials. When we start layering the different things together, we will see if something superfluous and we will see how the different elements interact with each other.

Don’t be afraid to combine flower designs of different colors and sizes with stripes or geometrical patterns. Don’t be afraid to combine different textures. It is important that they fit together and accent each other. Your own gut will tell you if it works or not in the end, and if it doesn’t, no harm done, just use something else.
