As you probably already know by now, SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, and there are many tips and tricks that can either help you, or ruin your efforts to get your website to a higher ranking. The ultimate goal of SEO is to increase the overall visibility of your pages in popular search engines, but we can safely say that Google is the biggest search engine there is.

When we talk about SEO, there are two strategies, the so called on and off page strategies. The on-page strategy includes keyword research and implementation, optimization of the website, an increase in responsiveness, etc. Off-page SEO strategies are exactly that, something done outside your website, such as social networks presence, link exchange or building, etc. While all this might seem nice, it is very hard to see results unless you heavily invest your time, money, and patience into this. That is called black-hat SEO, and we will not be talking about it here. We’ll just say that those are techniques used to manipulate search engine algorithms such as keyword stuffing, buying links, etc. This is something that we wholeheartedly recommend you DO NOT do – the results can be pretty, but in the long run, you can get severely punished or even completely removed from Google’s index. Finding loopholes, like in real life, might seem interesting, but only as a way of knowing what should be avoided.

On the other hand, the stuff we talked about in the intro is called, wait-for-it, white hat SEO, which is to say that most of those strategies should be applied naturally, slowly, and will provide you with results over time. Even they can be damaging if forced, but it is the best choice for anyone interested in improving their SEO.

Know Thy Competition

One of the most important practices in business, not just SEO, is to see what your competitors have to offer and how can you match that. If they are under you, you can simply ignore them, set the standards high and only compare yourself with those that you see have great results. Look at what they are doing, try and analyze their keywords and see how you can use that to your advantage.

Try and find something that they might be missing, an opportunity that you can seize for your own gains. Feel free to stalk them a bit online, and see what makes them so interesting, and then try and do something similar, or improve on what they have started.

Get Your Content Together

The easiest way to increase your website ranking is to constantly update the content on your website. That means posting regular blog posts that are cool, interesting, and relevant to your readers. Search engines will see this as a good sign and increase your rankings. You do not want to write content for search engines, mind you, but for your readers.

If search engines find it good – even better! To key to doing this is finding a right balance in everything, your approach, and target audience, how often you post and what you write about. Some of the best SEO companies recommend that you post two to three times a week. This is a magical number that won’t bore your visitors, yet will always give them something new to read and see. If you want, you can keep it short; only a few hundred words can do wonders for your website.

Once you start creating content, it is normal that you want to optimize it. Simply have the keyword you analyzed in mind, and find a way to implement it naturally, without sounding unnatural.

With the right mix of social networks signals, and creating a name that people will recognize, you will certainly create something that will help you achieve your end results – more visitors and potential customers for you. Pay attention to details, and with a little bit of luck, and with a lot of patience, you will get there in no time.
