Fleas are more than just a nuisance. They can also cause diseases in both humans and pets. Fortunately, there are many ways that fleas can be treated.

Bathe Your Pets

The first thing that you will need to do if you have a flea problem is to bathe your pets. After you have thoroughly bathed your pet, you will need to wash all of their bedding. Make sure that you wash your own bedding if your pet sleeps with you. Additionally, if your pet regularly rides in the car, then you will need to vacuum it out.

Check the Outside of Your Home

Fleas thrive in areas that are warm and moist. That is why you can keep fleas off of your pets by cleaning the outside of your home. Make sure that you keep the entrance dry and clear. You will also need to trim your lawn and keep it well-maintained.

Use a Dehumidifier

Your home may be creating the perfect environment for fleas to survive. That is why it is a good idea for you to invest in a dehumidifier. The dehumidifier will reduce the moisture in your home. You should also look out for signs of high humidity in your home. This includes things such as mildew or mold growth, rotting wood and stains on the walls.

Talk to the Vet

If your pet has a reoccurring problem with fleas, then it is time for you to take them to see a vet. There are a variety of flea treatments that can be used. Your pet will need to use a product that is designed to treat fleas at each stage. Most flea treatments are given to cats and dogs once a month.

Use a Flea Comb

A flea comb will remove most fleas from your pet. You will need to use the flea comb outside. Pay special attention to the base of the tail and neck area. Dip the comb in warm water after you are done to kill the fleas. You will be able to determine how well your flea control products are working by using the comb.

Call a Professional Company

If you are still having problems with fleas, then it is time for you to call a professional. A professional treatment is designed to give results that will last a long time. It will not only kill the fleas, but will also prevent them from returning.
